Vice President George Hartz and his wife, Donna, spent four nights on our sister city of Cairns, Australia, in late November – the first visit by one of our Board members to Cairns in more than a decade. In addition to the usual sightseeing within the beautiful Cairns region (the Great Barrier Reef, Kuranda railway and cableway, Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Center, etc.), they met with the entire Cairns Sister Cities Advisory Group. The meeting was extremely productive – establishing important personal relationships; discussing future exchange opportunities; sharing ideas and approaches for broadening and strengthening sister city relationships; and developing real excitement in the prospects for our ongoing interactions with Cairns.
A community informational meeting concerning Cairns will be held on January 18th at Coronado High School (more about that in later communications), and George and Donna strongly believe that Cairns will develop into one of our most exciting sister city relationships.
