In early December students at Pueblo exchanged bi-lingual greetings over an electronic Skype connection with students from Escuela Bartolome in Alamos, Mexico. The two schools have conducted language and cultural exchanges of art, pen pal letters, and treasure boxes. Now the program has expanded to provide students with an opportunity to experience the technology of electronic communications and a more personal cultural education.
A team of Scottsdale Sister Cities members went to Alamos to set up email and Skype capability at the Alamos elementary school. In the December educational experience, the new capability was tested by allowing about twenty Alamos fourth graders to make the acquaintance of twenty Pueblo Spanish language immersion students. Each of the students sat before the miniature video camera and spoke in both English and Spanish, one with one across the international border under teacher supervision.
